When Kelly Conway first uttered the phrase “fake news,” it was quickly ridiculed by Democrats across the country. When President Trump adopted it, it became a punchline to any conservative claims, facts, or observations that didn’t fly with mainstream media coverage. Barack Obama was one of the first politicians I can remember to conspicuously use the phrase “let me be clear.” He used it a lot, and as I started to notice, he used it specifically when he was about to lie to you.
