COVID stimulus: an open economy

Meanwhile, while our government was debating how much of the money they took from us they should give back, a better idea went ignored the self-professed elite among us: Open the entire economy today. Instead of our masters determining how much of our money they’ll let us have, why not open the economy and allow us to make our own money. In fact, we can do both. With freedom as our guide, those who want to open their shops and restaurants and businesses will be welcomed and encouraged to do so. But if they don’t, they can get a…

$600 for everybody? Why?

$2000. $600. Everyone is concerned about the amount of our money Congress is debating giving back to us in the name of COVID relief. Obviously, the real answer is to stop the lockdowns and open the entire economy. But short of that, I’m wondering why I’ve not heard one person wonder why we’re all going to receive a check. Many Americans, like myself, have been very blessed to have jobs that are allowing us to work from home as they’ve shut down much of the economy. Not only have I been receiving the same salary since this started, but…

We are at war

Conservative America is full of good people who play by the rules, hope for the best, pray for their enemies, and want the best for everyone and the country. They’re an optimistic bunch who just wants to live and let live. They don’t want or need politics to bleed into every inch of their life and would rather just enjoy their borrowed time on earth. It’s a simplistic summary, but it also explains why they’re the last to know that we are at war, whether we want to be or not. Conservatives, when provoked, are quick to tell anyone…

Why follow politics?

Because someone who doesn’t have your best interests in mind is following politics closely, and they’re going to use that against you. If you’re someone who doesn’t really follow politics, it may just look like a lot of liars arguing, and it’s impossible to tell who’s right, who’s wrong, who’s good, and who’s evil. It may look like people just trashing each other and trying to destroy each other’s reputation. If you’re just trying to enjoy your life and make the most of it, it’s easy to conclude, “who needs that?” Unfortunately, it’s getting harder and harder to avoid…

Merry Christmas

I just finished watching the December 20, 1975, “NBCs Saturday Night” (Saturday Night Live) with Candace Bergen, in it’s entirety. As always, the show ends with the cast standing together and waving. I couldn’t help but notice that every member of the cast was saying “Merry Christmas” to the audience and to viewers back home. You could see the hatred in their hearts as they wished this “Merry Christmas” on everybody, like wishing a pox on your home. The evolution from “Merry Christmas” to “Happy Holidays,” is a well-traveled topic, and I don’t mean to waste any more time…

My health is my responsibility

Not only is wearing masks not foolproof, but they don’t appear to make that much difference at all. If you look at states and countries with strict mask mandates versus those without, there’s not only little difference, but states like Florida have lower COVID mortality and case rates. However, that doesn’t stop some people from believing that masks are critical to saving the Republic, and we all need to wear one no matter where we are. This is causing all sorts of turmoil, bitterness, and tension within our own communities at a time which is already fraught with political…

Is ignorance bliss?

There’s a long list of reasons why this country is divided arguably more now than any time in the last 150 years. One primary reason is that we’re no longer arguing about how to make America a better country. Now, conservatives are working to save the country while Democrats are bulldozing to tear it down.. But another reason is the emergency of a 24/7 political news cycle. It used to be that people got their daily dose of news via the morning newspaper or before dinner during the 5pm news. First, there was the national nightly news, and then…

Conservative gun test forthcoming

For years, Democrats have been trying to destroy the National Rifle Association (NRA). They’ve been trying to kill them through our court system, as well as in the court of public opinion. They’ve been banging on them with lawsuit after lawsuit, draining their legal funds, while also blaming every act of gun violence on the NRA – despite the shooter having never been an NRA member. The fact is, NRA members are responsible citizens. Not all of them even own guns, but those who do understand the seriousness and responsibility that goes with owning such a weapon and are…

There’s no perfect solution

Human relations, communities, societies, and nations are far too complex for a foolproof solution. Yet, the way people go about their politics, you would think that the perfect solution is out there that would solve everything for everyone, if only we would put it into action. This leads to so many of the discourse problems we have. People are looking for answers, but their expectations on just how effective those answers will be needs some serious adjusting. There is not a problem on earth with a corresponding solution that doesn’t cause more or different problems somewhere else. You don’t…

A dose of perspective: now

The teaching of American history in our public school systems is clearly a problem. Between Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project teaching our children that the country was founded on racism and the nearly universal leftist bias of school teachers, our kids don’t stand a chance. Unless we teach them at home. That’s been well-discussed in conservative news outlets. But the problem is actually a level deeper than that. We need to teach our kids (and now adults) perspective. The facts are that the Founders did own slaves. There was slavery. Gays, women, and blacks only recently had…
