That statement – “people are stupid” – has always rubbed me the wrong way. In my experience, the person who says that thinks they’re smarter than everyone else – which, in itself, is stupid. When you think you’re smarter than everyone else, you fail to empathize. You fail to account for the infinite number of perspectives that people have. You fail to account for all of the different experiences people are bringing to the table that informs the lens through which they see events. It’s not that people are stupid. It’s that there are too many stupid people…
Taking time to assess…
In 2020… Which quality is more likely to cost someone a job, being black or being conservative? Which quality is more likely to cost someone a friend, being black or being conservative? Which quality would someone find more surprising as they got to know you, finding out you are black or finding out you are conservative? Which quality gives you a better chance of being beaten up or killed, being black or being conservative? (Not including anyone who lives in Chicago…) Which quality are people more likely to try and hide, that they are black or that they are…
Wow! COVID really does end on Nov 4
Today, I was talking to a friend who works in a Wisconsin school district. She said they had been informed that they were going to start the school year with virtual classes and reassess on Thursday, November 5. I thought I had heard this was the case elsewhere, so I searched “school reassess november 5” on Google. Just looking at the first page of results, it appears at least Portland, Seattle, DC, Maryland, and Virginia will all be starting virtually and reassessing on November 4th, 5th, or 6th. The running joke, especially among conservatives, has been not to worry…
Make voter registration drives illegal
There’s been increasing attention paid to how we’ll all be voting in the 2020 election. Not surprisingly, I have a different perspective on voting than many. There are many things about it I just don’t understand. Why do we allow early voting? First, the more time that people have to vote, the more time there is for unsupervised voter fraud. When we were all voting on one day, there was only one day to commit whatever fraud one was intent on committing, and when we voted at the polls, they had to be on site to do it. But…
Lead with optimism, destroy with pessimism
Today, candidate for President, Joe Biden, had this to say about women who want to work in this country: “The hard truth is women — and particularly women of color — have never had a fair shot to get ahead in this country. That’s why today, I’m releasing my plan to make sure women can fully participate in our economy and country.” As is getting entirely way too predictable, another Democrat makes a blanket statement, lumping an entire gender together, to say they’ve all been oppressed and prevented from pursuing their happiness. (Ironically, about the only group you can…
Protest rioter brutality
I just read somewhere that 18 police officers have been killed and nearly 1000 injured since George Floyd was killed (remember him?) and the rioting began in the United States. If the brutality of the rioters doesn’t call for protests, I don’t know what does. We need to gather in the streets and protest rioter brutality. We need to start beating up and tormenting any rioters we see. Our rally cry will be, “defund the rioters!” And we’ll get our city councils to defund any city organizations who are funneling money to the rioters. Oh, there may be some…
Male lives matter
I just learned today that 90% of those arrested in the United States are men. Men represent 49.2% of people in the United States, but account for 90% of arrests. According to the Washington Post database of fatal shootings, 96% of those shot by police officers are men. Clearly, men are being targeted by the police. We must spray paint our cities, destroy businesses, defund police, and tear down statues to make this right. Time to hit the streets!
Close brush with racism
Whew! That was a close one. I almost gave my kids the polio vaccine, but fortunately I found out, just in time, that Dr. Sabin, who’s credited with developing the vaccine, once had a semi-racist thought. Can you imagine? That’s probably why there are so many racists running around the United States. Do you have any idea how many millions of children are running around with that racist vaccine in their blood? I’m glad I looked this up. Fortunately, I caught this just in time. At least there’s a small chance my kids grow up not being racists. Now…
Is it “white privilege” or “white respect”
“White privilege” is supposed to speak to the idea that white men think they can do anything because, well, they’re white men. On the other hand, “white privilege” also means that white men do get away with anything, as statistically and proportionately, black men are convicted of more crime than white men. Is it possible what some see as “white privilege” is really the respect and healthy fear that white men have for the rules, the police, and going to jail? Are white men less likely to break the rules because they understand them and fear the consequences? We’re…
Freedom is dynamic
Democrats never account for changes of behavior. They insist on new regulations or make new laws based on what is. Whatever the current conditions, they figure they’re new rules, based on those conditions, will create whichever favorable outcome they seek. But they never anticipate that free people, being creative problem solvers when necessary, will always make adjustments that favor them. However many loopholes Democrats think they’ve closed, people will always find the workaround. Democrats think it’s a good idea to defund (or decrease funding for) the police. They appear to believe people will hang in and just call the…
