Our mainstream news media outlets and top Democrats (but I repeat myself) are rushing to make comments about how many people are dying in the states that are reopening.

Well, of course. The virus isn’t just going to go away. In fact, it’s here to stay.

Like the vast majority of viruses that coexist with us on this planet, they’re not going anywhere, and we have to learn to live with them.

And learn, we do. Often times, we build immunity to them by catching them and developing antibodies. Some of us get the virus and are completely unaware as we go on about our day, asymptomatic. And, others catch them and die.

That is part of life.

There is no shortage of diseases, maladies, complications, and behaviors that can kill us. I’m not sure why we’re playing favorites here and giving the coronavirus all the attention.

While we’re keeping a close watch on the death tally from coronavirus, all of the usual means of death, from heart disease to accidents to obesity, are still killing people.

And that’s the point. We’re reopening because staying closed is inviting a completely different set of maladies: depression, anxiety, stress, obesity, domestic abuse, loneliness… the list goes on.

At this point, it’s pick your poison. And hasn’t it always been.

As long as there’ve been people, there’s been death. And there will continue to be. It’s unavoidable. It’s why Washington said he’d rather die on his feet than live on his knees.

We only get one life, and the goal is to make the absolute most of it.

People that want to reopen are under no illusion that the coronavirus isn’t dangerous. They just don’t care.

What isn’t dangerous? There’s danger everywhere. We’re just not going to sit, cowering in our homes.

It’s time to get busy living. If you’re not down for that, you are welcome to stay locked in. There’s no one forcing anyone to do anything. And that’s one of the things that makes this country great. Let’s not forget it.
